Garnacha and Tempranillo from the hills around Spain's capital, tracked wine by wine on WineFortune
Madrid is a wine region of Spain, centred on the vineyards that surround the capital and gathered under the Vinos de Madrid denomination. WineFortune currently tracks one red still wine here, from a single producer, carrying the DO designation.
The vineyards climb from the plain towards the Gredos foothills and the countryside south-east of the city. Old-vine Garnacha is the signature of the western villages, giving pale, perfumed, fine-boned reds, while Tempranillo — locally called Tinto Fino — dominates further east. White grapes such as Albillo Real and Malvar play a supporting role. The climate is firmly continental, with hot, dry summers and cold winters, and soils range from granite and sand in the west to clay and limestone elsewhere.
WineFortune's price view is the index median per 75 cl bottle, built from WineFortune's own trades and listings over 90 days. For Madrid no index median is shown yet, as the coverage here is still narrow; the page grows as more wines from the region are tracked.
Medians are the 90-day WineFortune index per 75cl, ex VAT, built from WineFortune trades and listings. Wines without a trade or listing are tracked but not indexed.
Vinos de Madrid is the denomination of origin covering the vineyards of the Madrid region. It gathers villages from the granite foothills west of the city to the clay and limestone country in the south-east, and applies to reds, whites and rosés made there under its rules.
The western part of the region, near the Gredos foothills, is known for old-vine Garnacha grown on granite and sand, giving pale, aromatic reds. Further east Tempranillo, locally called Tinto Fino, takes over. Albillo Real and Malvar are the main white grapes.
WineFortune currently tracks one red still wine from one producer in the Madrid region, carrying the DO designation and sitting within the Vinos de Madrid sub-region on the site.
