Liv-ex indices are considered to be the benchmark for the global fine wine market. These indices track the transactional prices of the world’s most traded fine wines. So far, in 2022, all major fine wine indices remain in the positive territory.
There are many indices that are tracked, but the Liv-ex 1000 is the widest. It represents the price movements of 1000 most traded fine wines on Liv-ex platform, which is the broadest indicator to describe fine wine market performance overall.

When comparing YTD performance of different asset classes such as gold, stocks and fine wines, then it’s clear that fine wine has remained the most stable during the volatile periods of last months.
The Liv-ex 1000 has increased 11.7% since the beginning of the year while Gold has decreased 5.2% and S&P 500 has decreased 16.5%. When you compare the performances to inflation rate*, then the only one to outpace inflation is fine wine.

The 5 year performance shows that S&P 500 has increased the most - 61.8%. Liv-ex 1000 has increased more steadily - 47.4% - during the same period and Gold has shown the most conservative growth.

When comparing the longest period that the Liv-ex 1000 is available for - 18 years - then the fine wine has increased the most followed by gold and then stocks.
Liv-ex 1000 has increased during this period by 374.2%. Gold and S&P 500 have increased 300.6% and 259.7% respectively. Although until January 2022, the performance was pretty much the same for all the assets, the main difference has appeared during the past months.
