What is happening?
63rd Hospices de Nuits-Saint-Georges Wine Auction. Opportunity to buy investment wines from the 2023 vintage at the lowest price thanks to a barrel auction! WineFortune buys a full barrel and you can choose how many bottles you take for yourself. The total amount is 288 bottles (0,75l), but you can also choose the magnum size (1,5l). The auction happens on Sunday, 10th March 2024 at the Château du Clos de Vougeot. We are taking part in that auction thanks to our good partner Domaine Faiveley and we will get the tasting notes before the auction from the Faiveley experts.
Why are we taking part in that auction?
It's the same concept as the 2020 auction for Hospices de Beaune, where we bought a Corton Clos du Roi Grand Cru barrel, or 2021 auction for Hospices de Nuits, where we bought the same barrel that we are bidding also this time. Grand Cru is the highest classification and has the lowest risk level for an investment. In the Nuits auction, there are no Grand Cru wines, but there is one of the highest quality Premier Cru classification wines. Several years have been discussed that Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru "Les Saint-Georges" should be a Grand Cru classification wine, regarding to excellent geographical location.
What's the quality of the 2023 vintage - Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru "Les Saint-Georges"?
Jean-Marc Moron, technical manager of the estate described the 2023 vintage as “exceptional in terms of identity, without comparison with its predecessors, which will delight both those in a hurry and those who have the patience to wait until the wines reach their peak, in ten or twenty years.” As a result, the wines had remarkable balance and are typically Burgundian in character”, with “unusually high pH levels”, the estate said, in what were extraordinary climatic conditions. The quantity of grapes was “abundant”, it said, and in “superb condition and at perfect maturity”, resulting in 150 barrels or pièces across 19 different cuvées.
How to invest in barrel wine?
- We sign a purchase and sale agreement, where we fix the maximum price per bottle. You can choose how many bottles you wish to buy in regular 0,75l or magnum 1,5l size.
- After the auction, we will return the surplus or refund the entire payment if the purchase price was higher than the maximum agreed.
- In the latest on autumn 2025 wine goes to the bottles by our partner Domaine Faiveley who has been responsible for the aging period in the barrel.
- We transport a pallet of wines to our excise house in Estonia and after that, we send you a storage fee invoice. The storage fee is 2,5 eur+VAT/bottle per year.
